Life was good for the Jacobs family.  Roger had a great job as a computer engineer, his daughter, Michelle, had gotten engaged, and he and his wife, Linda, were planning on paying for most of her wedding.

Linda says, “We were all so excited. It was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m just so happy for you!’”

Michelle shares, “They were just, ‘Okay, when you get home, we get to celebrate.’”

Linda adds, “And we had it all figured out, you know, what we were able to do and what they were able to do.”

But a few months after the engagement, Roger’s company of 21 years laid him off.  The six-figure salary he was making was suddenly gone.

Roger recounts, “I came into our living room and got down on my knees and prayed and just said, ‘God, help me.’”

Linda says, “We were having to put things on credit cards.  And, you know, I thought, you know, ‘What is going to happen? Are you going to lose our house?’”

Roger tried to support the family, but the only money he was making came from odd jobs and unemployment.  To make matters worse, the Jacobs were locked into a payment plan with the wedding venue.

“We called the wedding venue and let them know that he had lost his job and we didn’t know if we were going to be able to continue the payments,” says Linda.

Through it all, the Jacobs tithed off of the little income they earned, an act they say was non-negotiable.

Roger says, “I mean, that was just a point of faith for us.  Our tithing was a necessity and that’s how we framed it.”

One of the ministries they supported was CBN.

Roger explains, “I’m helping out the best way that I know. And that is to get food, help people rebuild, get people back into their homes."

Even as their money dwindled, Roger and Linda continued to believe that God would help them provide.  Meanwhile, their daughter found out about a “dream wedding contest.” The ceremony would take place at the exact same venue where she wanted to get married.  On a whim, she entered the drawing and won.

Michelle said, “I started crying. I was just like, I’m like, ‘How is this even possible?’”

Roger excitedly said, “She’s going, ‘We won! We won!’ And, you know, Linda and I, I think, we jumped up and down.”

Holding back tears of joy, Linda said, “I mean, you know God loves you, you know. But that He cares about every detail of your life like that, it was like, ‘Oh my gosh.’”

Since this wedding was now totally paid off, the venue reimbursed Roger and Linda for every cent they had already put down.

Michelle said, “I have no doubt in my mind that God did have His hand in this entire thing.”

A few months after the wedding, Roger landed a brand-new job as a corporate I-T manager.  Now, he’s working fewer hours a week and making more than he even asked for!

Roger said, “I’m also a firm believer that God has miracles every day in our lives.  You just have to look for them.”

Linda added, “It was unbelievable. Our insurance was going to be ending, unemployment was going to be ending, and then he got the job.”

Looking back, the Jacobs say these blessings are directly related to their faithfulness through giving.

Linda said, “Tithing in itself is a blessing, because God somehow puts things in perspective.  To know He’s there, no matter what, is so comforting and inspiring.”
