Character is important in shaping who we are and who we are in Christ. Here are some solid words of scripture to validate its importance.

When You Are Known for Your Character

  • And now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do for you all you ask. All the people of my town know that you [Ruth] are a woman of noble character. NIV
  • A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones. NIV
  • Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. NIV
  • They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you [Jesus] are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are. NIV

 

The Value in Developing Good Character

  • Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have a peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. NIV
  • Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” NIV
  • Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. NIV

 

The Elements of Good Character

  • But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. NIV
  • They [King Joash & the priests] did not require an accounting from those to whom they gave the money to pay the workers, because they acted with complete honesty. NIV
  • Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out. NIV
  • May integrity and uprighteness protect me, because my hope, Lord, is in you. NIV
  • In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us. Titus 2:7-8 NIV
