The Islamic State released 19 of the more than 200 Assyrian Christians it kidnapped last week.

A senior official in the Assyrian Democratic Organization said the 16 men and three women were all around 50 years of age or older, which suggests age may have been a factor in their release.

The Assyrian Human Rights Network said the captives were released after paying an Islamic tax imposed on non-Muslims.

Meanwhile, relatives of those still captive fear their loved ones may be enslaved or killed.
