From Nigeria to a Dream Career in the USA

Agnes Ebedi was born and raised in Nigeria with six brothers and sisters. Her parents were teachers who struggled to provide for their children.

“And the only time I would get a new outfit would be Christmas,” says Agnes. “So I used to look forward to Christmas.”

But they did have a television, and Agnes often watched The 700 Club. She learned important truths about God, and eventually asked Jesus into her heart.

“There is this God out there who cares about you, not just this person that is abstract, but who wants to be in your life and who wants to answer your prayers. And so definitely it was a powerful impact, The 700 Club was.”

Agnes also learned about the importance of giving.

“The Bible says give – it says give and it will come back to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over.”

In 2004, Agnes moved to the United States to attend college and pursue a career in counseling. To help pay her way through school, she worked as a custodian.  It was her first job and it didn’t pay much, but she tithed faithfully believing that God would provide – and he did.

“When I give to God, that was my communication of God, ‘I love You.’ And God, ‘You’re my provider. God, I trust You.’ And so miraculously people started giving to me. I had friends were calling me up, or my mom said, ‘I should bless you with this’ or ‘I’m going to pay your phone bill,’ ‘I’m going to take care of this,’ ‘I’m going to pay your rent.’ Just miracle after miracle started pouring in when I began to give.

She earned her Masters degree and is now a mental health counselor and ordained minister.  She’s also a CBN partner.

“I just feel like ‘Wow, my little money I sow here, this is able to be a part of such a great ministry that was able to reach out to me as a young girl.’”

Agnes’ favorite CBN ministry is Operation Blessing – one of the only charities to venture into remote, dangerous areas of northen Nigeria.

“That’s where I don’t even go. I mean it has to be the sending of the Lord. And so for a ministry to go in there and say we’re going to bless these people and we’re going to give them Bibles or we’re going to minister to them the love of God, that’s just—it’s awesome. It’s awesome.”

Agnes says giving is a reflection of our love for God, and His blessings show His love for us.

“I give because the Lord is good. But at the same time I know that, because He is good, He gives back to me, exceedingly, abundantly above all I can ask or think. And so, God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

Being obedient to God's truth made an incredible difference for Agnes. She made herself available for God's love to flow through her to others, and she is reaping a blessing herself as well.
